Day o' plenty apparently. I've been falling behind on my posting. I've been putting out more material than I've been posting on this page. That's very bizarre. Two new 'Scene A Week' postings below this one. I'm hoping tomorrow to get a new short up, the one written for the Celtx Forum Competition. You could always go there and read it of course but I'll still post it here anyway. Day two of auditions for the KWLT One Acts went well. Saw some good people and found another person or two that I'm fairly interested in a casting. Just need one more good day and I'll be set. I only really need one more person to pull it all together for me. Damn it, if you're in the area and haven't auditioned yet get in there. We've got one more night. 'The First Draft Done' is almost done. One more read through. Hopefully completed by the end of the month. 'Sid' is almost done. One more read through. Considering entering the Praxis Spring Competition. Considering the concept that I'm broke as broke and probably shouldn't be spending money on it and 'Sid' really isn't ready for a competition. Considering that I'm an asshole and will probably do it anyway. Too much success makes me cocky. Need to be deflated a bit. david shute - Oct 29, 2008 at 12:31 AM

First night of auditions for the KWLT One Acts down. Saw a couple people that I'm very interested in. I can tell between auditions and work I'm going to be one of the walking dead by Wednesday night when auditions are done. That's okay. If you're in the area and interested in being part of the production please come out and audition. We can always use new blood. Whackload of writing going on. Have a new Celtx forum competition script and a couple Scene A Week posts that should be coming up soon. Nearly done editing The First Draft Done. Hopefully I can have this done by the end of the month. I'm not holding my breath. david shute - Oct 27, 2008 at 11:04 PM

I'm still mostly keeping up with my Scene A Week project. I fell a day behind but I'm all caught up now. They're nice little exercises just to be able to sit down and plunge in to writing without any need for sense of direction. The book on writing that I've been self indulgently writing has come together in the form of a first draft. I've gotten some positive feedback on it and there's quite a bit of editing left to do and then figure out if I'm happy with it at that point. The end goal is to put this all together in a decently formatted PDF for ease of availability to anyone. I think I'll be sticking with OpenOffice for that since I'll be able to be much pickier with the formatting that I would with Celtx. One week until auditions. More info here. Once I'm done working on the book, which I'm calling The First Draft Done for reasons obvious by the content, I'm going to go back and doing a quick edit on Sid. I've had enough time away from the material that I should be able to go back to it fresh. Oh, and the Celtx crew sent me some cool shit for entering their Against Malaria competition. A very sweet Celtx jacket, a 1GB usb drive, and some sweet stickers. Apparently I was in the short list for the top prize. Meh, I entered to pad the numbers a bit and fill it out some. I also won one of their regular forum short script competitions with New Face of Security. Nothing actually comes from that other than good feedback from peers which is actually preferred right now. david shute - Oct 20, 2008 at 10:49 PM
I won't be doing this any time soon but I was just struck by the thought of a one day screenplay. Some day, when my wife will be gone and I don't have any demands on my time, I might just give it a shot. Sit down and during one complete day write an entire screenplay. I'm generally awake for around 16 hours. Make some room for food and breaks and even drop it down to ten hours work that's only twelve pages an hour. How hard could it be? It'd be a fun, if completely frustrating, exercise for me some time. Auditions are still a full three weeks away for A Brand New Hell. I'm anxious to get started on this but I'm still not sure about everything that I need. I've done some pricing on make up and assorted materials. I have a lot of shit in my head but until it comes down to it I'm not going to be able to get a lot of it out. I need to get through and edit the shit out of the script as well. Need to get a production script together and teach my wife how to use Celtx so that she can make notation updates to the script. I conned her in to being my stage manager. Lucky her. Basic book I've been writing about writing is going as well. I'm almost through my rough first draft. There's still a significant amount of work to go yet but it's getting there. I have a feeling that I'm missing a lot of materials right now. It'll get there. If you haven't noticed I've added an RSS feed to the page since Blogger makes it really easy to do so. If you don't know what RSS feeds are I'd suggest doing a search. They can make your life much easier rather than checking websites frequently. david shute - Oct 7, 2008 at 7:35 PM
Scene A Week: "Who else has done it?" Who Else Has Done It? - 3 page scene in PDF format

Just finished pushing through the last couple pages on the first draft of a new feature script called 'SID'. I was hoping to have this done by the end of September but I think I did okay with my time line considering I'm not even a day and a half overdue. It's basically a superhero script with some horror undertones. I've sent it out to a couple people for a first read through and we'll see what we get back. Once I'm satisfied it's been proofed appropriately I'll post it here. Just need to get there first. The first production meeting for the January One Acts is tomorrow evening. Not much to say about this yet. Next writing project is a book on writing. Basically documenting my approach on writing and how I schedule things to get done. I'm going to be taking a two month approach on this instead of my typical three since I really don't need a month to work on story arcs, character dynamics, and plot. Should just be a straight gather notes and then write. Since I've been jotting stuff down for the past two months the note gathering process should be fairly straight forward. I haven't mentioned it yet but I'm also picking up a regular writing exercise. It's just for me for now but I'd like if it could expand out to be a group exercise. The basic premise is pick a random sentence on Sunday, have a scene inspired by or using the random sentence by the following Sunday, and then start the process all over again. I'm calling it, for reasons I hope are obvious, Scene A Week. It'd be cool if I could keep up with this just for the regular writing and the source material stockpile. Like everything else we'll see what happens. david shute - Oct 2, 2008 at 8:35 AM |
